What are Irregular Menses?
Irregular menstruation is a menstrual disorder which is characterized by irregular cycle lengths as well as vaginal bleeding between expected periods. The menstrual cycle is governed by hormonal levels and neurotransmitter levels in the body. Irregularities in the menstrual cycle can be caused by anything from stress, environmental toxicity or insufficient diet and nutrients.
How will we determine if I have irregular menses?
Dr. Cohen believes that integrative treatments can be very effective in helping patients suffering from irregular menses find relief. She tests the levels of hormones and neurotransmitter present in the blood, and determines the nature of the patient’s condition. Dr. Cohen then works with the patient to establish a treatment plan that includes dietary modifications to promote a low-glycemic, low-fat diet, a supplement plan to ensure the ideal levels of iron, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and vitamin D are being achieved, and a schedule of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy in order to rebalance the hormone levels in the body.
