Try this Do-It-Yourself Fruit Wash

Do It Yourself Fruit Wash

Grapefruit Seed Extract has powerful antibacterial and antifungal properties. The actual extract from grapefruit seeds is not easily homemade but can be found at your local health food store. The following recipe can be used on fruits and vegetables with a peel (not lettuces) and you may find they last longer as mold and bacteria are eliminated.

For lettuces you can use a 3:1 ratio of just water to vinegar rinse. Either wash can also be used in a pinch to disinfect surfaces. Just spray on the fruit (or surface) and leave for at least 15 minutes. Rinse produce with water before consuming.

In a pitcher mix:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoon baking soda
  • 20 drops of grapefruit seed extract
  • Juice of ½ lemon

Transfer to a spray bottle using a funnel. This can keep for many months.
